Techniques To Catch Multiple Species-Saltwater Guide
 

 

Trolling

​​

  • For inshore/Coastal. For Offshore see Offshore store.

  • Trolling- Slowly motoring 2-4 knots in boat. with multiple heavy duty rods dragging rigs behind the boad. Load your boat with as many rods as it can handle for optimal performance.

  • use Planner boards to Spread your lines farther off to each side of the boat.

  • Use inline sinkers and ball bearing swivles for best performance

  • Measure how much line you let out to avoid tangles and cover all depths of water.

  • Vary the depths of water you troll in.

  • Umbrella rigs and chain type rigs work well.  


Chumming

  • Anchor Boat in a location that holds fish- Reef, point, Dropoff, wreck, near bridge structure.

  • Place a ground fish chum either frozen or fresh in water. Put the chum in a mesh bag and tie off to boat. Shake chum occasionally.

  • Fish finder rig- use a sliding sinker, either egg sinker or a fish finder clip. Use approprate size leader/hooks for species. Use a fresh piece of cut bait.

  • Rebait every 30-45 mins if no fish. Bait as many rods as managable for your boat/crew.


Live Linning 

  • Can use chumming equipment.- use a live fish/eel. you can add a live line to your chumming rig.

  • Toss live bait around bridges/wrecks/rocks. Jetties, Piers,

  • Hooks, Sinkers, split shot can help get bait down

  • ​


Lures/Jigging

  • Vertical Jigging 

  • metal Jigs, Diamond Jigs, Spoons

  • Shads/Plastics.- What each is good for. zman, bass assasin

  • Jig Heads- 1/4 oz-3+ 

  • Other Lures.


Topwater

  • Spooks- Walk the dog. Twitch rod tip with slack line and tip down for snaking motion in water.

 

  • Popper-More surface disturbance. can work better in deeper locations/ rougher water.

  • Ppooping Cork

 

Fly

Bottom Fishing

  • Top/bottom Rig 2 hooks on wire rig- only for small/bait fish, egg sinker rig-single hook to size for species.. 


Shore/Piers

  • Limited to shore?

  • increase casting distances for more opporunity. Have heavy enough gear to pull the fish up on the pier/away from obstacles.

  • 6-7 ft rods- for smaller locations-piers, docks. 7-8 ft rods good all around Bait/lures, If fishing mainly baits from jetties/bridges in open water a longer 10-19

 

Surf

  • Bait/Lures Fish finder rig- Size leader to species of fish. 30-100+ pound, Use appropriate size hook for species. Size sinker to conditions. 

  • Lures-Distance. Metal, Topwater, Sp minnow, Plastics.
